Clinical and etiological profile of Complicated Urinary Tract Infection in Children: A health facility-based cross-sectional study

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is known to be the most frequent bacterial in paediatric population. Objective: To determine clinical profile and etiology of complicated urinary children. Methods: This cross-sectional study was done at Department Nephrology Neonatology, National Institute Child Health, Karachi from 1st January 2022 30th June 2022. In 241 children either gender, (male female) aged up 15 years having structural or functional anomalies kidney recurrent due underlying abnormalities were enrolled. Demographic characteristics along with laboratory parameters etiological agents UTI noted. Ultrasonography examination dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) renal scan (where indicated) performed. Results: Of children, 179 (74.3%) male. The mean age 3.08±3.63 years. Capillary refill time prolonged 78 (32.4%) Fever/chills, nausea/vomiting, urgency, dehydration frequently noted presentations reported 232 (96.2%), 109 (45.2%), 91 (37.8%), 89 (36.9%) respectively. findings evident bilateral moderative hydronephrosis 60 (24.9%) E. coli followed by Pseudomonas Klebsiella species commonly found 98 (40.7%), 50 (20.7%), 40 (16.6%) Conclusion: majority UTIs presentations. observed ultrasonography
